Study Abroad Checklist
Complete the following steps to
stay on track with your study abroad application!
ONE
YEAR BEFORE STUDYING ABROAD
- Attend an information session
- Discuss classes and
options with academic advisor
- Research programs online and meet with a peer advisor
- Decide on location and best time to study abroad
- Make appointment to meet with Director of Study Abroad
- Create an account online (see the tab Create Account)
6 MONTHS BEFORE STUDYING ABROAD (SEMESTER BEFORE) - APPLICATION
Stage 1: Meet with Study Abroad Director
Stage 2: Fill out
Elizabethtown College application forms (2/2) using the application section of this
website.
Stage 3: Once you are approved, begin filling out your Enrollment forms (10/10):
Fill out two transcript requests
Receive a copy of the Elizabethtown College Study Abroad
Policies
Receive the Elizabethtown College Study Abroad
Agreement, sign it, and upload it
Pick up
the Course Approval Form,
meet with your advisor, complete it, and return it to Study Abroad
Office
Complete and upload health form and any learning accomodations
APPLICATION DEADLINE TO STUDY ABROAD DURING THE SPRING: OCT 16
APPLICATION DEADLINE TO STUDY ABROAD DURING THE FALL: March 4
At the same time, begin your application to program-specific paperwork for Elizabethtown College partnership/affiliate programs:
For
non-affiliated study abroad programs (such as IES, AIFS, CEA, etc.) Keep
copies of:
application form
any required references
personal statement (if required)
any other required forms
e) any required photos
application fee (if required)
PASSPORT*
If you
haven’t already done so, apply for a passport (your program will provide
information about visas) Download a passport application from the Dept. of
State website: http://travel.state.gov. You can either mail your
passport application or you can go to the Elizabethtown public library and have
them process it. Allow 6-8 weeks for
processing unless you pay the an expediting fee which will speed it up to about
2-3 weeks. Etown Public Library

*It is also
advisable that at least one of your parents or guardians has a valid passport
as well
AFTER
PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE
Upload a copy of your Acceptance
letter in your online "Enrollment forms".
Return course approval form to study abroad
office by Nov 15/April
4. List more classes than you plan to
take, and get your advisor’s signature. Sign the form and return it to the study abroad office. The Director of Study Abroad will sign the
form and send it to the Registrar who will approve your course choices (or add
comments) and copy the final form to you.
PRE-DEPARTURE MANDATORY MEETINGS:
Attendance to these meetings is REQUIRED
At these meetings you will receive:
pre-departure packets with important information about preparing to go abroad
information about billing,
financial aid
housing information for when you return
forms for forwarding your mail, de-registering from your classes, etc.
information about health insurance, health issues, safety concerns while overseas
International SOS card purchase agreement
FORMS SENT TO YOU BY PROGRAM PROVIDER:
Complete all forms and return them directly to your program provider
BEFORE DEPARTURE
Before your departure, you
must complete your online "Enrollment forms". These need to read 10/10* before you go abroad.
*The course approval form, health form, insurance, waivers, and transcript request forms are particularly time-sensitive!
FIRST
WEEK/S
Complete your online Profile with "Contact While Abroad" data, including your on-site Program Coordinator phone number
Send an email to the Study
Abroad Office letting us know you made it ok
Send an email with your
final course schedule to Study Abroad Office (posts@etown.edu), the Registrar (riderea@etown.edu), and your major advisor.
Stay in touch by email, take all your pre-departure notes with you and HAVE A GREAT TIME!!
