If you’ve always wanted to get your passport stamped you’ll be happy to know Elizabethtown College encourages all of our students to study abroad for a month, a summer, a semester, or a year. More than 200 Elizabethtown College students go abroad each year to enrich their academic studies and experience new cultures.

Elizabethtown College students can participate in several types of overseas experiences. There are more than 50 academic programs offered by our affiliate providers, and also many opportunities to participate in a short-term faculty-led program. Students can even volunteer, intern, and participate in directed research overseas.

Studying abroad during your college education is one of the smartest decisions you will ever make.  It will change your life profoundly and increase your employment options significantly.  Not only will you learn about the world, you will learn about yourself in ways you never imagined.

Studying abroad isn't just about going to class in a different country.  It's about experiencing another culture from the inside out, putting yourself in a completely unfamiliar situation and learning how to adjust and adapt.  It is an essential part to becoming globally competent and aware.

Here are some other reasons to study abroad:

  • You can take courses that aren’t offered at Elizabethtown or enhance your studies by going more in-depth overseas (i.e. Asian studies IN ASIA, art class IN ITALY!)

  • You will meet people who you would never meet if you stayed in Elizabethtown

  • There is no better way to learn a language than to immerse yourself in it 24/7

  • You will get views about American culture that will help you see yourself and your country in a whole new light

  • You will learn to adapt in ways you never thought possible before

  • You will experience other cultures rather than just read about them – you will become globally competent!

  • You will be part of #GenerationStudyAbroad, a national initiative to double the number of the students studying abroad by the end of the decade. Check out the hashtag on twitter and instagram to learn more about scholarships and contests available to study abroad students.

The Study Abroad Office is here to help you through every step of the process, from finding the right location to fit your education, career and personal goals, to helping you plan and finance your trip, to helping you adjust back to life at Elizabethtown.  The Study Abroad Office can be found in BSC 247.
